Today I got off work a bit late and found that the L train wasn't coming for 15 minutes. I caught the N and took it all the way to the beach. When I got off I found a beautiful sunset. With music in my ears and my camera in my hand I strolled along the path, enjoying the scene, and I found that I was not the only one.

This place has basically become our church, we go there every Sunday morning.

This man and his little entourage frequently stand at Powell Station by the cable car turntable and shout loudly at people about how we're all going to burn in hell. He and his crew try to coerce people to join their religious sect by vocal intimidate, taunting and condemning. I've never seen anybody say anything nice to him, and am curious if he's ever brought somebody to Jesus with his tactics.

To capture the whole thing I'll have to come back with something wider than 15mm.

After nearly three months of trying to find a job that better suits my career goals, I signed on with Zoosk today. Tien and I went out for dinner and I told her all about it.

San Francisco has many hills and many stairways.

I'm amazed at the VR performance of the 70-200mm VR ii. You can shoot it hand-held at 1/(focal length/10), blowing away the traditional hand-held rule. This shot is 200mm @ 1/20s hand-held, and I can't see any motion blur when zoomed 1:1.

Several days of high wind have pushed sand out onto the great highway, closing it again. There is a roundabout and parking lot underneath all of this sand.

Even after 5 years I still discover interesting locations with great views in San Francisco.

A long time ago I took a Nikon body cap an drilled a big hole in it with a dremel tool. Then I cut open an aluminum can and taped part of it over the hole. Then i poked a hole in it with a sewing needle. This created a very tiny aperture. This is how you make a pinhole camera. The aperture was too small though, not enough light was coming through, and you could tell it wasn't circular. Finding something only slightly larger than a sewing needle was difficult, so today I decided to just push a thumb tack through it. This created a very nice round hole, but it was too large to make a very clear image. In any case, this is a photo I took using a piece of an aluminum can as a lens on my D800. Maybe next I'll dry tin foil, that's supposed to work well.
